NO 91.
Aned 6
25 MAR 1950
GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONGKONG,
20th February, 1930.
516
My Lord,
I have the honour to address Your Lordship
on the subject of the erection of a new pavilion for the
Hong Kong Civil Service Cricket Club.
2.
The great majority of the members are
subordinate European officers of the Civil Service; and in
1902 (when the Club was formed) a portion of the Wong Nei
Chung Recreation Ground was set aside for their use and this
allotment has in successive years been continued by the
Governor in Council.
3.
In 1908 the Club built a small pavilion at
the very low cost of $3,000, the necessary funds being
raised by the issue of debentures to members, repayment of
which was completed by 1918.
4.
The membership has now increased to 250, and
besides cricket, provision is made for lawn tennis and bowls.
As a consequence the existing pavilion is now inconveniently
small and unsatis factory for its purpose and a temporary
matshed has been erected for the accommodation of ladies.
5.
A realignment of the road on which the
pavilion in question abuts will shortly be necessary, so
that
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
LORD PASSFIELD,
&C.,
&c.,
